Loupes for your surgery

Tailor-Made or Ready-Made options

No single pair of loupes suits every surgeon. Choose the optical system for the way you work, then your frames and colour.

The optical system

Choice one

Consider one of three optical systems

A pair of loupes is two things: the optics that magnify, and the frame that carries them. Univet build three magnifying technologies, and LP Med supply all three in the UK: Galilean, Prismatic and Ergo. Each balances field of view, magnification and working posture differently. Start with the one that suits your specialty and the way you operate. There is also Refractive, set out below.

Univet builds loupes two ways: Tailor-Made to your own measurements, or Ready-Made in standard sizes. That is the next choice, and it affects what each system can provide for you, so both builds are shown below.

The frame matters as much as the optics. Not every frame carries every optical system, and not every magnification is available in every frame.

01

Galilean

Wide field · light weight

A lighter, intuitive system with a wide field of view and a forgiving depth of focus. Choose it when broad situational awareness and easy reference outside the magnification zone matter more than the highest power.

02

Prismatic

Maximum resolution

A higher-magnification system with edge-to-edge clarity for detailed work. Choose it when the procedure demands maximum resolution and corner-to-corner sharpness, accepting a narrower field and shallower focus for it.

Magnifications available
Tailor-Made3.5 · 4.0 · 5.0×
Ready-Made3.5 · 4.5 · 6.0×
03

Ergo

Upright working position

An angled, ultra-light optical path that lets you hold a more upright head and neck position. Choose it when working posture and line of sight weigh as heavily as magnification; a short adaptation period is expected versus straight-line systems.

Mid–high magnification

A refractive optical path giving mid-to-high magnification with bright, sharp imaging and an upright working posture. Choose it when you want the upright working position at the top of the magnification range. Tailor-Made only.

Why no working distance or weight is quoted

On a Tailor-Made pair there is nothing to publish. Both are set to you at the fitting, from your height, your posture at the table, and the frame and optics you choose. Ready-Made pairs come in a standard size range rather than to a stated distance.

That is what a fitting is for, and it is the strongest reason to see the range in person. A pair set to you is a different object from a pair chosen off a list.

Choose Tailor-Made or Ready-Made

The choice is between a pair specified to you at a fitting and a ready-made configuration. It affects which frames and optical systems are open to you, and individual combinations vary by model.

Tailor-Made

Specified to you at a fitting, from your own measurements, your head fit and how you work at the table. This opens Univet's widest published choice of frames and optical systems, with availability varying by frame. Corrective lenses can be specified on selected models.

Measured for you. Made for you.

Ready-Made

Pre-set configurations, ready to wear, with fitting adjustment that varies by model. The range is a conventional frame, a flip-up and an adjustable head-worn mount. Prescription correction is not built into a Ready-Made pair. AIR-X and HEADGEAR are compatible with prescription eyewear.

Off the shelf, ready to go.

Availability varies by frame and optical system.
Ready-Made Prismatic is supplied at all three powers on the AIR-X flip-up and on HEADGEAR, not in a conventional frame. In a conventional frame, Ready-Made is Galilean 2.5×. Please give us a call to check your specific frame and optics combination.
