Two randomised studies, published in 2026.
Two randomised controlled studies were published in 2026. Between them they compare Velnez against three packs already in use. Both are small: thirty patients in one, twenty in the other, each at a single centre. This is pilot scale. Both are open access. They favour Velnez on some measures, not on all.
Three-arm randomised study1
Velnez against Rapid Rhino Nasastent and Merocel
Prospective, randomised, controlled, open-label, single-centre. Thirty patients aged 18 to 70, ten to each arm, followed for three weeks after nasal surgery.
The authors report that Velnez achieved haemostasis sooner than both comparators and broke down sooner than the Nasastent, with no adhesions or adverse events in any arm and endoscopic healing scores similar across all three.
Ethics approval from S N Medical College, Agra, and registration in a national clinical trial registry. The authors declare no financial support and no financial relationships with any organisation with an interest in the work.

Two-arm randomised study2
Velnez against NasoPore
Prospective, randomised, open-label, single-centre. Twenty patients, ten to each arm, undergoing nasal surgery.
The authors report that Velnez controlled haemorrhage more quickly, and at the seven-day review left less residue and showed less oedema on endoscopy. It was also associated with lower reported pain at surgery, at discharge and at first follow-up. No significant infection, allergic reaction or fibrosis was reported in either group.

Common questions
Does Velnez require painful removal?
No. Velnez fragments uniformly, so a removal procedure is not necessary, and the pain of traditional nasal pack removal is eliminated.
What happens to the dressing after placement?
It fills the cavity by absorbing surrounding fluids and blood, then fragments naturally, in a choice of 3-day and 5-day degradation options. Regular saline irrigation supports the desired fragmentation.
What is Velnez indicated for?
Nasal and sinus surgery: rhinoplasty, septoplasty, rhinoseptoplasty, FESS, sinoplasty and turbinate reduction, for haemorrhage control and prevention of adhesion after nasal surgery.
How is Velnez stored?
At ambient temperature (4–30°C), away from sunlight and in a dry place. Single use, sterile and gamma irradiated, with a three-year shelf life.
