One published study, in tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy.
One study has been published, in January 2024. Twenty-one patients were followed through ear surgery at a single centre in Agra, India. It was sponsored by the manufacturer, it carried no comparator group, and its authors name both the sample size and the single-arm design as limitations. It is peer reviewed and open access. It describes how Velnez behaved in the ear. It does not establish how it performs against any other pack.
Single-arm observational study1
Velnez after tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy
Open-label, interventional, single-arm post-marketing surveillance study at a single centre. Twenty-one patients aged 18 to 60, followed over eight visits to sixty days. Velnez was used in two places in the same patients: minced within the middle ear to support the temporalis fascia graft, and as a space-occupying dressing in the external auditory canal.
The authors report that the pack disintegrated within the middle ear over an average of twenty-five days, confirmed on MRI, with no residual material found. Haemostasis was achieved within ninety seconds in every patient. No pack migrated, no infection was recorded, and no patient reported moderate pain at any visit through to day sixty.
The study was sponsored by Datt Mediproducts, the manufacturer. Conflicts of interest are disclosed in full under ICMJE, and the authors declare no financial relationships of their own. Ethics approval from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, with registration in the Indian national clinical trial registry. Patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs, and those with diabetes or hypertension, were excluded, so the study reports nothing about those groups. The paper does not identify which Velnez sizes were used.

What happens to the dressing as it degrades?
